Fashion designer Vivienne Tam brings blue-chip NFTs to New York Fashion Week with her new collection, “Weaving into the Metaverse.”
Tam’s signature style is known as a mix of Eastern and Western vibes. This season, the designer got inspiration from futuristic cities, gaming, and web3. Her designs feature pictograms of an ancient Chinese language mixed with Bored Ape Yacht Club PFPs, Doodles images, CryptoPunks, Meebits, and other non-fungible tokens.
With this release, Vivienne Tam aims to bridge the physical world to the virtual world. In order to achieve it, she showcased the collection both in real life and in the metaverse, with the virtual experience built by the web3 real estate platform Propy, mirroring the physical venue. The virtual location featured a red carpet, a catwalk, backstage, and even New York cityscape views. Just like at the physical event, there were live DJs and hosts.
It’s worth noting that Tam’s show was supported by the Hong Kong-based web3 incubator CyberPort, of which she is a member. The designer is not new to NFTs and has previously integrated CryptoPunks, BAYC, and CyberKongz imagery into her Spring Summer 2023 fashion collection.
On a side note, Vivienne Tam is not the first fashion designer to showcase her collection in the metaverse. Last week, American brand BCBGMaxAzria and celebrity stylist Maeve Reilly presented their collaborative collection in Decentraland.
