Unstoppable Domains Joins OMA3 Board to Set Standards for Web3 Land Domains

Unstoppable Domains today announced that they are joining the Board of Directors of OMA3 (Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3), a group of companies that are creating standards for a decentralized metaverse.

On the OMA3 board, Unstoppable Domains will be responsible for standardizing the use of Web3 land domains in the metaverse alongside OMA’s Portaling and Mapping Working Group. With that, the association hopes to achieve its goal of creating an open marketplace of Web3 land domains.

Known for offering blockchain-based domain names to enhance the digital identity of web3 users, Unstoppable Domains are now expanding its product to metaverse lands. Web3 land domains are interoperable and universal, allowing users to jump directly into their virtual lands and parcels. This new offering will allow users to teleport directly to a specific location within the metaverse rather than just moving between different worlds.

To prevent conflicts and duplication across different virtual worlds, standardization is crucial in maintaining the cross-world nature of Web3 land domains. Not only will that streamline the use of Web3 land domains, but it will also provide developers and users with a consistent experience.

“As metaverse platforms become more interoperable, it will be important to give users an easy, universal way to uniquely identify metaverse land,” Sandy Carter, COO and Head of Business Development at Unstoppable Domains said in a statement.

In an email to Metaverse Post, Carter said Unstoppable Domains would contribute its expertise to committees discussing important decisions for the metaverse experience involving portals, land domains, marketing the metaverse, and more.

When asked what an open metaverse looks like to her, Carter said:

“An open metaverse is a seamless experience in the virtual world. It’s an honor to be the first non-metaverse board member of OMA3, which shows the emphasis OMA3 is placing on digital identity, reputation and interaction in the metaverse.”

Unstoppable Domains is a member of the Web3 Domain Alliance and will coordinate efforts between that and OMA3. Founded last year, the Web3 Domain Alliance is a member-led, member-driven organization dedicated to improving the technological and public policy environments for users of blockchain naming services.
