Steve Jobs’ Birkenstocks Sell For $200k, and Come With an NFT

The Birkenstocks that Steve Jobs wore have just sold for a whopping $218,750 at auction to an undisclosed buyer. The best part is that it comes with an NFT. Yes, you read that right. The co-founder of Apple’s two-strapped, foot-imprinted sandals from the 1970s and 80s received a total of 19 bids. Let’s look into the purchase and what it included.

The holy grail of sandals

From November 11 to November 13, Julien’s Auctions ran an auction for Steve Jobs’ old Birkenstocks. Initially valued at $60,000, bidders made offers ranging from $15,000 to $175,000. The ending price is the highest anyone has ever paid for a pair of sandals at auction, according to the auction house. Moreover, the imprint on the suede sandals isn’t the only thing giving them value. “Steve Jobs wore these sandals during many pivotal moments in Apple’s history. In 1976, he hatched the beginnings of Apple computer in a Los Altos garage with Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak while occasionally wearing these sandals,” the auction house said in the online description. 

It’s worth noting that Steve Jobs adored Birkenstocks. He wanted to know every detail about them, including details about the materials. Chrisann Brennan, Jobs’ first girlfriend and mother of his child, said the following: “The sandals were part of his simple side. They were his uniform… that’s why Birkenstock sandals were so important to him.”

Steve Jobs Birkenstocks NFT 

Attached to the costly Birkenstock is a 1-of-1 NFT displaying a 360° digital representation of the sandals (foot imprint included). In addition, a book by Jean Pigozzi titled “The 213 Most Important Men in My Life” is also included. The undisclosed owner now owns a piece of Steve Jobs’ history and is the only owner of the Birkenstock NFT.
