Grammy award winner, artist and philanthropist Allah Rakkha Rahman announces the upcoming launch of KATRAAR, a music-themed metaverse.
In Tamil, Katraar means “a group of learned people who change the world,” explains Rahman in a promotional video. According to the creator, the project aims to change the world by promoting new ways of music and art creation.
The metaverse platform will feature soundtracks from international artists. With Katraar, users will have the opportunity to promote themselves and monetize their music. Rahman himself will also publish original pieces in the virtual world.
Katraar is being developed in partnership with the HBAR Foundation. The latter helps builders and creators by providing support in tech, business, marketing, legal, and ecosystem development. The metaverse platform will be deployed on HBAR Foundation’s Hedera Network. According to the announcement, Katraar will use blockchain technology to establish a global community of artists and music fans.
In addition to the metaverse, A.R. Rahman reportedly plans to launch NFTs in partnership with the HBAR Foundation.
There is yet no exact metaverse launch date. However, interested individuals can sign up for the updates on the project’s website and have a chance to win gifts.
Rahman’s upcoming metaverse is not the first music-themed virtual world. In 2020, renowned electronic music producers Richie Hawtin and Joel “Deadmau5” Zimmerman launched a music metaverse startup Pixelnyx. In December 2022, entertainment giant Animoca Brands acquired a majority stake in the project.
