Quest Pro, a $1,500 professional VR headset, was revealed by Zuckerberg at the conference yesterday. The business market is now the main focus, according to Mark, who asserts that the ultimate objective is the total replacement of work laptops and PCs.
The corporate metaverse’s software and hardware are ready. Thanks to exterior cameras, the new headset has learned to monitor hand movements and switch between AR and VR in real time.
The third option, mixed reality, is also intriguing: you can text on your real keyboard on the table without taking off your glasses. An object identification system sends it, along with the user’s hands, to VR.
In addition, Quest Pro gets a set of cameras focused on the user’s face. They record eye movements and facial expressions to send to virtual avatars. The Meta is also working on AI models that forecast the position of the full body based on data from the headset, implying that avatars will soon have legs.
Because of the emphasis on mixed reality, it had to trade immersion – the headgear does not entirely block out the surrounding world, as the Quest 2 does. For pure VR applications (which are all compatible with the new gadget), you must purchase an extra $50 app.
If Zuckerberg is successful in attracting businesses into his metaverse, only time will tell. To begin with, the launch of Quest Pro may be one of the year’s major developments.
Let’s discuss the possibilities for its operation in the comments.
