Winamp, the reliable media player, has come up with an unexpected feature, much to the surprise of its patrons!
One of the most popular media players for PC users, Winamp, has added support for music NFTs, along with some bug fixes and newly added features. The new feature will allow users to play audio files embedded in their non-fungible tokens, calling it a Web3 desktop upgrade.
Know about Winamp’s latest features
The latest version of Winamp will let music lovers link their Metamask wallet via Brave, Firefox as well as Chrome browsers to Winamp. Also, the platform supports ERC-721 and ERC-1155 audio and video files and is compatible with both Polygon as well as Ethereum.
In the words of Alexandre Saboundjian, Winamp’s CEO, ‘The genesis of Winamp has always been about accessibility and innovation, and today we are proud to launch the very first standalone player reading audio NFTs, as well as any other existing formats.’ He further stated, ‘this new version of Winamp allows people to listen to any file they want, using a player they already love.’
It must be noted that the media player is known for supporting a wide range of media files, and on 7 December, the Winamp team revealed that the NFT support is officially live and ready to go.
Music NFTs: The talk of the town
Despite the ongoing crypto winter, music NFTs are having a moment. From big artists such as Steve Aoki and 3LAU to renowned record labels like Warner Music Group, the music industry is leaving no stone unturned to leverage Web3 to better monetize their work.
In a recent piece of news, Warner Music Group announced that it would release music NFTs through a Polygon-based marketplace, LGND, thereby creating a Web3 music platform and the said platform to be known as LGND Music.
