This announcement from VRChat is impressive for many reasons:
Mocopi is supported in VRChat! We teamed up with Sony to integrate their mobile motion capture solution, on both PCVR and Quest!
Watch Mocopi in action above. It’s a much more user-friendly way of doing motion capture, and relatively affordable at $358:
Sony has launched an interesting product called Mocopi, consisting of six motion-tracking bands worn on your hands, feet, back and head, with a price of 49,500 yen (about $358). The aim is to let you track your body to create videos or operate avatars in real time with metaverse apps like VRChat. It even offers an SDK that lets you import motion data into 3D animation apps.
Even more key: VRChat partnered with Sony to make this happen. Which makes me strongly suspect we’ll see future partnerships with VRChat and other Sony products.
My favorite VRChat community source tells me adoption should be strong:
“75% of the user base (those on native Quest) did not have any compatible fullbody solution until now It also makes VRChat the first native quest application to support fullbody tracking, something not even Horizon has yet as it is not yet a headset feature.”
Mocopi working with anime girl avatars right out of the box is also a big plus!
