KOLKATA: The commissioner of Kolkata Police, Vineet Goyal, has asked the detective department and other senior officers to ensure that at least a few officers, posted at police stations, have some basic knowledge and training in handling cases involving cryptocurrency and dark web. “These are crimes of the future. So, it is necessary that cops are ready to face the challenges ahead.” The observations by the commissioner came when joint CP (crime), Murlidhar Sharma, was analysing cyber crimes reported in the city in the past year. The discussions were carried out during the crime meeting at Alipore Bodyguard Lines on Tuesday. In keeping with the commissioner’s instruction, cops are mulling specific training on cryptocurrency and dark web by domain experts.
