TL;DR
-
SHIB, which started as a meme coin, has turned into a project with a strong investor, user, and developer community.
-
A while back it was announced that the SHIB team were working on a metaverse project – now, with the launch of the new @mvshib Twitter account, people can stay up to date with the progress and communicate directly with the team building it.
-
While it’s great to see projects evolve from meme coins, to ones that develop innovative new technology and products, it’s unclear right now how and why the SHIB metaverse will be any better/different than the other metaverses that already exist (Decentraland, The Sandbox etc.).
Full Story
These days, launching a spinoff Twitter account is kind of like the ‘Kramer entrance’ (see gif 👆) for announcing a new Web3 project.
And that’s exactly what the SHIB team has done with ‘SHIB – The Metaverse.’
SHIB, which started as a meme coin, has turned into a project with a strong investor, user, and developer community.
A while back it was announced that the SHIB team were working on a metaverse project – now, with the launch of the new @mvshib Twitter account, people can stay up to date with the progress and communicate directly with the team building it.
We don’t know a ton about the SHIB metaverse yet; but what we do know is that it will feature 100,595 plots of land that will be able to be minted.
@mvshib’s first (and only) post so far is to announce a contest in which they’re giving away 10 land plots.
Here’s our take:
While it’s great to see projects evolve from meme coins, to ones that develop innovative new technology and products, it’s unclear right now how and why the SHIB metaverse will be any better/different than the other metaverses that already exist (Decentraland, The Sandbox etc.).
In order for the metaverse (i.e. the 3D version of the internet) to be widely adopted, there needs to be use cases that not only attract users in the first place, but give users a reason to come back.
Here’s hoping the the SHIB team follows Bored Ape Yacht Club’s lead in doing something different and unique with their metaverse – because another Decentraland right now just won’t cut it.
(SHIB team, we’re rooting for you!)
