The Sandbox taps toy brand Care Bears and Polygon blockchain for an in-game avatar collection.
The Care Bears release includes 3,060 metaverse avatars inspired by the iconic 1990’s characters. Just like all other NFT projects for The Sandbox, the Care Bear collection features hand-crafted avatars with a variety of traits and different rarity scores. For instance, “Unique” NFTs come in ten one-of-one manually created designs. Then, the rarity scores divide into “Web3,” “Mixed,” “Multicolor,” and “Classic” tiers.
It’s worth noting that all Care Bears’ avatars are smaller than the regular ones, so players can explore the virtual world from a new perspective.
The NFTs grant holders the possibility to play games and earn $SAND, The Sandbox’s native token, and communicate with other users. Owners will also have a chance to participate in unique events held by The Sandbox.
The public minting of the collection starts today at 2 PM UTC. One NFT avatar will go for 100 $SAND, which is approximately $60 at the time of writing.
The Sandbox is not the first company to release a plush toy NFT collection. In October, American toy brand Toys “R” Us launched an NFT-themed Twitter account and teased fans with an upcoming NFT collection on Solana.
Real-life toy brands also collaborated with NFT projects to release physical toy versions of the community’s favorite NFT characters. For instance, Macy’s and Toys “R” Us developed six plush characters from Gary Vee’s VeeFriends NFT collection, while PMI Toys partnered with Pudgy Penguins to create the first extensive toy line of Lil Pudgy collectibles.
