Japanese game developer Square Enix has introduced Symbiogenesis, a new playable NFT experience. It takes place in a “self-contained” world, where characters can be collected as digital art and used as PFPs or as characters in the interactive story. The Symbiogenesis story unfolds in an alternate world in which players complete missions to solve mysteries. With each strategic move, the story unfolds.
The Final Fantasy maker’s first NFT art project was revealed on November 3 at Web3 Conclave, an event organized by the India Game Developers Conference (IDGC).
Kotaku reported that after the Symbiogenesis name leaked, fans hoped the project would be the anticipated continuation of the role-playing horror game, “Parasite Eve.”
In the 2022 Shareholders’ Meeting Report, Square Enix shared plans to develop “story-focused” NFTs. The gaming developer’s medium-term goals included the “development of blockchain games and entertainment products.”
There’s still very little information about Symbiogenesis, but the game will be focused on art, collecting characters, storytelling, and community. The game’s theme is also unknown.
Symbiogenesis’ Ethereum NFTs are expected to launch in the upcoming spring, along with a “free browser service.” The official Twitter account for the project is live as of today and will provide more details.
Square Enix made a tremendous entrance into Web3 back in May when it announced a new business strategy that included metaverse and blockchain gaming. To achieve the goals, the company teamed up with blockchain gaming giant Animoca Brands. In July, Square Enix partnered with NFT platform Enjin to release Final Fantasy NFTs.
