In case you missed it, Neal Stephenson’s Lamina1 is hosting an inaugural Open Metaverse Conference featuring the author, Philip Rosedale, and other metaverse luminaries next February in Los Angeles — sign up for updates here.
While the jury is very much still out on just how much web3 has anything to do with the Metaverse (if at all) — a topic I just discussed with Stephenson himself last week — this conference aims to bridge that conversation:
The Open Metaverse Conference is a two-day, in-person event featuring talks, debates, roundtables, pitch sessions, and networking opportunities focused on pioneering visions for the Open Metaverse. Its mission is to establish a place where coders, cryptographers, and creators alike can come together to discuss how Blockchain can help the Metaverse develop on a more level playing field – while exploring the possibilities of unique and never-before-possible experiences built by its makers. By gathering experts who have imagined, invested, and created in Web3 and immersive, the OMC will foster a community of like-minded leaders and storytellers across disciplines who believe in privacy, ownership, and a more open and collaborative online world.
Hope to see you there! If I’m not still busy, that is, finishing my actual book about the Metaverse. Just hope it’s not downtown where parking is a nightmare.
