These tools allow people to use their bodies as controllers with stellar hand, eye, and mocap tracking. The San Francisco, California-based enterprise hosts six bespoke experiences from major movie titles and in-house intellectual property (IP).
Sandbox VR develops its gaming experiences with a team of AAA gaming developers, allowing up to six people to work together as teams in fully immersive worlds. The gaming experience is set to launch later in the year.
Players can join several memorable challenges tailored from the iconic Netflix series to compete in a last-person-standing melee. Visitors can also receive video recordings of their gameplay and recall their gaming experiences.
Steve Zhao, Founder and Chief Executive of Sandbox VR, said,
“Our mission is to bring people closer together through world-class immersive experiences. What could be a more perfect fit than Squid Game, the most widely shared and discussed television series of the past years. It’s an amazing opportunity to partner with Netflix to provide these fans the chance to transport themselves into the world of the show”
Sandbox, Vicon Capture LBVR Experiences Industry
The news comes as Sandbox VR expands its operations across 30 locations worldwide, with one of its latest in Holborn, London in the United Kingdom. The company remains one of the fastest-growing startups in the extended reality (XR) industry.
Sandbox VR also struck a major partnership with motion measurement firm Vicon. This comes after the latter leveraged its technologies for the Amber sky 2088 VR experience complete with Sandbox VR’s free-roam capabilities.
Vicon’s LBVR solutions offer real-time, precise motion tracking tools for real-time, collaborative gaming experiences. Sandbox VR has now incorporated Vicon’s technologies across its 26 locations.
Vicon’s latest Valkyrie camera solution ranks as the world’s highest-spec visual mocap device for location-based virtual reality experiences. It features automated calibration and VKX cameras with strobeless, 7-megapixel resolutions and 380 frames per second.
Moorehouse’s comments come as the company is set to attend the SIGGRAPH event in Vancouver, Canada 8 – 11 August, where the company will showcase its latest camera system and engage with the global immersive tech and extended reality (XR) communities.
Netflix has also entered the Metaverse as it filed several patents and intellectual properties (IPs) for gaming in a massive bid for the immersive and e-commerce markets.
With 200 million subscribers, the video streaming platform aims to tap immersive technologies for on-demand gaming experience as well as interactive entertainment.
