rooom Joins Metaverse Standards Forum amid IGS 2022 Europe

rooom, a virtual meeting and metaverse platform, announced this week it had joined the Metaverse Standards Forum as a principal member.

In a LinkedIn post ahead of its attendance at the Immerse Global Summit (IGS) 2022 Europe, the Jena, Germany-based enterprise metaverse firm wrote it had joined the Forum to “develop common standards” for increased interoperability in the global tech community.

The Khronos Group, a major organisation dedicated to developing interoperable, open-sourced assets and standards for web3 platforms, hosts the Forum.

A rooom spokesperson wrote in the post,

“In a rapidly changing field, it is important to develop common standards to foster interoperability for a truly open and inclusive metaverse. Only through interconnected standards, accessibility from many different devices, and a sustainable approach we can realize the full potential of the [Metaverse]”

The enterprise’s membership provided it with the “perfect opportunity to contribute and exchange ideas” with other member organisations to build “an easily accessible Metaverse for everyone,” it concluded.

Currently, the company is showcasing its latest metaverse solutions to tease audiences with a sneak peek of changes and upgrades to its immersive platform.

Its experienceCloud solution provides environments across devices, including VR headsets and WebGL-based browsers, for immersive event hosting and displaying real-time 3D (RT3D) assets.

The platform offers full 360-degree walkthroughs for attendees to interact with all assets. It also includes a massive 3D object library backed by the Khronos Group for easy world-building and deployment.

During the COVID-19 crisis, numerous companies such as Vodafone, E.ON, Deutsche Telekom, DHL, and the IFA 2020 hosted their events and meetings on the hybrid platform.

What is the Metaverse Standards Forum?

According to the Forum, it aims to rally global standards organisations and companies to build and standardise interoperability for the Metaverse.

The Khronos Group leads and hosts the consortium via a group of Standards Developing Organisations (SDOs) and allows potential members to join with a Participating Agreement. Doing so provides members access to prototyping, toolkits, hackathons, plugfests, and exclusive activities, among others.

To date, the Forum hosts a massive catalogue of over 35 organisations and enterprises, including IKEA, Adobe, Epic Games, Huawei, Avataar, Qualcomm, Sony, NVIDIA, Microsoft, the Open Geospatial Consortium, the Web3D Consortium, Meta Platforms, and many others.

In recent months, additional German firms such as NeXR and METAYO joined the massive initiative, leading to greater input and contributions to the future of the rising spatial communications platform.
