Roblox just sent me highlight data from Q4 2022 for the metaverse platform:
58.8 million average daily active users in Q4 2022.
Year-over-year growth in DAUs: Europe up 24%, APAC up 21%, and US/Canada up 19%.
Year-over-year growth across all age groups. Highest growth reportedly among users 17-24 year olds, โwho comprise 31% who accounted for 22% of all DAUs in the quarter.โ
In other words, overall growth in daily active Roblox users in key regions is up over 20%. Thatโs quite decent. Also, average DAU last month (according to this summary on the Roblox site) is 65 million. As I just wrote, rumors of the Metaverseโs death are greatly exaggerated.
Thereโs also growth among adult-age users, which remains Robloxโs crucial challenge โ or what I call โthe Metaverse Age Cliffโ):
Of that 58.8M DAU in Q4 2022 (if I understand Roblox corporateโs wording), about 4 million daily Roblox users are in that sweet spot (for advertisers) of very young adults between 17-24. While Roblox is still dominated by kids, a quite decent number of highly active users are adult age.
Roblox the company doesnโt officially report monthly active users, but Iโm told by a very reliable source that itโs currently over 250 million monthly active users.
If MAU rates roughly track with DAU numbers, that suggests Roblox has about 17 million monthly active users in the 17-24 category. Iโm speculating here, but Iโd call with a safe estimate, give or take.
More 4th quarter 2022 data via Roblox:
Thatโs a pretty decent cut of revenue for the user creators, though keep in mind that community developers only take about 25% of that $624M as cash after platform fees, i.e. $124.6 million. (Double-checking that number with Roblox now.)
