Iconic men’s lifestyle magazine Playboy celebrates its 69th birthday with an immersive experience and an exclusive NFT collection.
Playboy invites The Sandbox players to its virtual Mansion, which is located in the “California Dreamin” district. Notably, among the other residents of this neighborhood are Snoop Dogg, FaZe Clan, and professional skateboarder Tony Hawk.
The magazine first launched its MetaMansion experience in The Sandbox in July. Through December 19, the virtual venue will feature iconic characters from the magazine’s past and present stories. For instance, The Sandbox currently hosts Playboy Rabbitars, Playboy Party People, and DJ BLOND:SH.
Users can dance, celebrate, and participate in themed play-to-earn quests. Additionally to the entertainment, Playboy offers a prize pool of 100,000 $SAND to visitors who complete one of the quests.
More than that, Playboy fans can purchase commemorative in-game NFTs. The collection features six tokens: a Rabbit Key, Radar’s Rabbitpack, 69th Bday Nightstick, PlayboyMobile Convertible, Triple X Rabbit logo, and the April 1956 Cover of Playboy.
“We’ve had so much fun working with The Sandbox to carve out special moments and opportunities, including the recent California Dreamin’ LAND sale, free avatars for our Playboy Rabbitars, and our new NFT collection, The Playboy Party People. We hope to surprise and delight our communities while building the foundation for a larger MetaMansion experience that celebrates pleasure in the metaverse, and the 69th Birthday Party experience is just a preview of what’s to come,” said the VP of Art, Editorial, and Web3 Projects at Playboy, Liz Suman.
Remarkably, Playboy is not new to NFTs. In October 2021, the magazine issued a collection dubbed “Playboy Rabbitars.” The company has also recently filed a trademark application for non-fungible tokens. The brand will reportedly create avatars, images, and other downloadable media.
