The leading bank in Central and Eastern Europe, PKO Bank Polski, is expanding into the metaverse. On May 30, it will host one of the world’s inaugural virtual job fairs within its Virtual PKO Rotunda based in Decentraland. It’s the first event of its kind in Poland and one of the first in the world. The fair targets both entry-level and experienced professionals, mainly from the tech sectors.
Attendees can learn about the bank’s operations and apply for a specific job. The most engaged participants may have the opportunity to schedule a personal interview with bank recruiters.
The financial institution also plans to create digital experiences on renowned gaming platforms like Fortnite and Roblox. PKO further wishes to enhance its presence on decentralized metaverses such as Decentraland and The Sandbox. In addition, the bank will construct additional VR models for its branches to expand its virtual operations.
PKO Bank Polski is seeking companies with the appropriate technical expertise to partner with in developing and maintaining virtual environments and designing gameplay on metaverse platforms.
The bank leads mobile banking in Poland, serving nearly 12 million customers with its IKO mobile application activated 7.4 million times. It ranked first in the Finnoscore digital maturity assessment among 230 European and North American banks. Since 2022, the bank has pioneered its presence on Decentraland as Poland’s first banking outpost.
Other banks, including JP Morgan, HSBC, Standard Chartered, CaixaBank, and SCB from Thailand, have also purchased virtual land to offer banking services in the digital realm. Last year, UBS and Julius Baer, Swiss wealth management banks, experimented with the metaverse by using virtual avatars and headsets for client interactions, replacing traditional meetings.
