DIKEC, named after the turkish silver medal winning shooter, is one of many memecoins that surfaced.
If memecoins were an olympic sport, Solana degens would win the gold.
The 2024 summer Olympics are underway in Paris, and several notable athletes have had their names turned into tokens and traded on the open market. On Tuesday, Turkish nonchalant shooter Yusuf Dikec took the stage and earned his country a silver medal–and then went viral for his noticeably casual vibe.
Degens took note, and 12 different DIKEC tokens appeared on Dexscreener. Described as “cool turkish hitman,” market capitalizations range from a few thousand dollars to $393,000. The longest standing DIKEC token now trades for $0.0002 after soaring to $0.0008. Another shooter, Kim Ye-Ji from South Korea, also inspired degens, who promptly created the YEJI token.
Even the word Olympics has become a token to be traded. From Bolympics, dubbed the Book of Olympics, – a play on words that resembles Book of Meme (BOME) – which within hours soared to a $600 million market capitalization, to Crime Olympics (TERROR).
Other less fortunate athletes also adorn the ever expanding Olympics memecoin pantheon.
Controversy broke out when Italian boxer Angela Carini lost to Algerian transgender boxer Imane Khelif and prompted degens to start trading tokens in reference to Carini . One token had $1.5 million in 24 hour volume with a $111,000 market cap, while the “IStandWithAngelaCarini” token has a $45,000 market cap and $521,000 24 hour volume.
Both trade for pennies on the dollar.
With 11 days left for the Olympics to end, degens and spectators rub their hands in anticipation of who will make their way to the podium in Paris, as they’re sure to also make the list in Solana DEX trackers.
