Since before they even began their Beta, the Genopets team has been working to get approval for integration with Google Fit. At long last, this effort has come to fruition and with the latest update, the Genopets app has permission to interact with Google fit, hopefully providing a more accurate step counter for Android users!
The latest Genopets update for Android devices requires the installation of Google Fit. Then, once the Genopets and Google Fit apps are linked, Genopets will use the step counter from Google Fit for their calculations. There have been some ongoing issues with Genopets properly counting steps on Android devices. So hopefully, this update will clear up any lingering issues in that area.
It’s also nice to see web3 apps get some attention from mainstream companies. Being accepted by Google Fit, one of the biggest fitness apps around, is a big win for the Genopets team. This also opens the door for integration with wearable devices such as watches.
In addition, with this update comes the introduction of Pet petting! By swiping two fingers across the screen, players can pet their Genopet. This has no game effect at the moment, though there is an associated sound and animation in response to the petting. In the future, Genopets will include a pet maintenance feature, requiring players to tend to their pet on a regular basis to keep them happy.
More About Augments
Genopets continues to release new information and teasers about Pet Augmentation. Augments act as both a physical change to your Genopet, and a stat bonus. Augments come in the form of tails, antennae, horns, and other various physical body parts. These will alter how your Genopet looks. In addition, Augments provide a multiplier to a Pet’s base stats, and also provide a skill. Skills can be attacks, buffs, or hacks. These will be used in the Genopets Pokemon style, battle game.
Rarer Augments offer larger multipliers. Augments also evolve with the Genopet — growing in size and detail with each evolution stage.
Crafting Augments requires a Recipe, a Reagent, and a combination of Crystals and GENE tokens.
We don’t have a release date yet for Augmentations, but Genopets does still have an ongoing Treasure Hunt with an Augmentation reward. They are up to puzzle three now, but you can still join in and solve the puzzles for a chance to craft a limited edition, Legendary Augmentation!
What is Genopets?
Genopets is a free-to-play, move-to-earn game built on the Solana blockchain. While using the Genopets app, players collect steps from walking. They convert those steps into energy, and then into KI tokens. KI tokens are the main currency in Genopets and used to craft Crystals, improve their Genopet, maintain habitats… pretty much any game feature.
Genopets features a number of NFTs, as well as the new style ‘SFTs’ for basic resources. The main NFTs are Genesis Genopets and Habitats. SFT Resources include Raw Crystals, Refined Crystals, Terraform Seeds, and other upcoming game additions such as Pet Augments.
Players can earn via cashing out their KI tokens, crafting and selling Crystals, or renting out Habitats. Habitats are the main gateway into play to earn. Each Habitat holds one Genopet. Habitats are needed to convert Energy into KI, and for all crafting. Players must maintain their Habitats or production stops.
Genopets includes two tokens, GENE and KI. GENE is the governance token, while KI is the main game currency. The game is currently in beta, and they send out new invitation codes on a weekly basis. Follow Genopets on Twitter and Discord for more information.
