Adventure Forge is a powerful toolset aimed at empowering game masters, storytellers, authors, and artists to create their own narrative-rich video games with no coding required. Adventure Forge is a new software tool that helps designers bring their visions to life with a fast and easy-to-use, no-code authoring system, huge design depth, and thoughtful integration of optional designer-facing AI writing assistance. It is powered by the latest developments in narrative game design and storytelling.
Jorda Weisman is the founder of Endless Adventures, a gaming company that includes franchises like BattleTech, MechWarrior, Shadowrun, and Crimson Skies. His previous entrepreneurial ventures included Virtual World Entertainment, FASA Interactive, Wizkids, and Harebrained Schemes. Paradox Entertainment acquired Harebrained Schemes in 2018, and Weisman left to work on augmented reality technology for Walmart. He now considers retirement from games.
Weisman is the CEO of Weisman Games, which is focused on narrative games and isometric RPGs. He started working on the new AI chatter years before its release. He and his team developed an innovative dropdown menu system that allows you to create logical sentences and outcomes.
Generative AI will help game designers create assets for their own games via Adventure Forge. The idea was to invest in engineering so that designers could create something with no code. Too often, game developers would spend time creating documents and sending them to engineering, waiting for them to execute them and see how they’d done. Weisman wanted to empower players to go and make their own games and didn’t start with an AI focus. “We’re just using AI in a couple places to augment the designer,” he said.
The Nocode authoring system helps Weisman’s players create games; it is used to develop nonplayer characters and scenes, as well as write text. The AI also provides suggestions for further writing.
Endless Adventures is working with Scenario.gg to generate isometric game assets for the universes they are publishing. The model is trained exclusively on the player’s art, and creating isometric assets is tricky. The company is confident that its players’ creativity will generate new things for their games. Endless Adventures started as a couple of players’ ideas after a tabletop game. It will invite game players, tabletop game masters, authors, and artists to create their adventures later this year.
Weisman believes that the company will start by creating isometric art games with a certain art style. These games can include narrative games like text adventures or visual interactive novels like Choices or Episode, or anime-based interactive visual novels and isometric roleplaying games. “I love that art form,” she said. “I love when people tell their stories.” She hopes to see the company’s first product being a marketplace for artists who create artwork for game designers creating games in the Endless Adventure system.
Weisman talked about why he felt passionate about narrative games and why they have such a big impact on players. The benefits of narrative games include exposing players to new cultures, characters, worlds, and thoughts and helping to change how players think. The hope is that Adventure Forge will empower both of these benefits.
Weisman says gaming has had an impact on culture. While he believes AI can help people with their creative endeavors, he thinks humans are better at it.
Recent AI updates in game development:
- Blizzard Entertainment has filed a patent application for AI music synthesis technology that will be able to collect, gather, and calculate various data to build soundtracks that meet user preferences and specific conditions. The generation will occur based on the player’s talents or experience.
- A good open-world game should be rich with small details that enhance the player’s experience. The key element is the presence of ambient conversations, which are written by the game’s developers one by one. The tool, Ghostwriter, generates initial drafts and helps reduce the time and effort required to create immersive game environments for popular Ubisoft open-world games, such as Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs. Ghostwriter is an amazing tool that allows narrative writers to input the desired character and type of interaction they want to create. The tool generates numerous variations, each with two different options, and writers can edit.
- Didimo software company specializes in creating lifelike digital avatars. It has released Popul8, an AI tool that can produce diverse game figures efficiently. Metaverse Post had an exclusive opportunity to interview João Orvalho, Chief Technology Officer at Didimo, to get insights on how the tool can enhance avatar development.
- Generative AI is an emerging tool for creating new content based on prompts and training data. The criticism surrounding its use has, however, caused many game developers to shy away from it. As this tool is becoming more widely accepted in game development, creators are choosing to be transparent about their use of it.
