Metaverse platform Decentraland has announced the full release of its Software Development Kit (SDK) 7.
The company aims to bring Decentraland’s SDK closer to the SDK that was originally imagined for the platform. Such a kit would serve as an open protocol for creating interoperable metaverse content, meaning that the SDK can be adopted by any platform that wishes to do so.
The tool was first announced in July 2022. Decentraland released it in alpha and beta and it was available to community members for review.
According to Decentraland’s blog post, the project required rewriting a major part of its existing Software Development Kit. The organization rebuilt the SDK keeping in mind three principles: usability, performance, and portability. So, content creators can now develop content using the powerful scene builder Decentraland Editor. The tool fully controls any scene’s code while remaining visually based. Then, the new SDK allows players to have a smooth game experience. More than that, the Decentraland Software Development Kit 7 is adaptable to other platforms and engines.
Among the other features of the project are the brand-new UI system based on FlexBox and the latest version of TypeScript. These tools allow users to utilize dynamic HTML-like tags to build any UI and give access to powerful features. Then, SDK 7 features improved raycasts and performance. External JavaScript and TypeScript libraries are now also compatible.
SDK 7 also features minor updates, such as the official support for the AvatarShape component and the possibility to obtain the loading state of a 3D model.
To celebrate the launch, Decentraland Foundation will host a Game Jam. The company will share details on June 19.
