Metaverses of the world are now expanding the experiential capabilities of wearable technology to deliver a truly web 3.0 experience to users who want a peek into the future of consumer technology.
Developing an experiential world
Wouldn’t it be cool to process smells and touch in the metaverse? At CES 2023, Taiwanese tech giant HTC showed off a virtual reality headset that can help users feel and even smell in a virtual world. Many other companies at CES also gave a peek into their headsets that will compete directly with market leader Meta.
US-based OVR Technology showcased a headset that contains a cartridge with eight primary aromas that may be combined to create different scents. They plan to release it later in 2023. An earlier version of the same was used to market fragrances, but now the tech has been imbibed into VR googles to let users smell virtually anything, AP reported.

Even then, such tech is far from wide use and is still many years away from becoming accessible to all customers. While many companies bet on headgear like VR glasses as the future of mobile tech, its sales slowed down by 2% in 2022.
But that’s not stopping big companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Meta from pouring money into wearable tech capable of feeling sensations.
An Israeli company called Lumus has built AR glasses that are already in use by underwater welders, pilots, and even surgeons. During a procedure, doctors are able to monitor a patient’s vitals and more, Lumus’ VP of marketing, David Goldman told AP.
