Burberry has won the inaugural Fashion Award for Metaverse World and Gaming Experience. Burberry was named the winner last night by British musician Kojey Radical, who stated, “a global panel of industry experts have determined that in 2022 a brand who showcased excellence in this space is Burberry.”
Vogue Business wrote that there weren’t other nominees, and the award was accepted by Burberry’s digital team.
The Fashion Awards 2022 took place on December 5 at the iconic London venue, the Royal Albert Hall. There were seven rewards in total: the special recognition award for cultural curation, the designer award, the model award, the independent British brand award, the BFC foundation award, the Isabella Blow award for fashion creator, and the metaverse world and gaming experience award.
The British fashion brand was awarded for its innovative outlook and experiments in the metaverse. Fashion Awards emphasized that Burberry pushed the boundaries to show its excellence in the virtual world and credited Burberry’s partnerships with Minecraft and Blankos Block Party.
Burberry collaborated with Mythical Games to launch its own vinyl toy for the multiplayer video game Blankos Block Party in July 2021. Rod Manley, Burberry’s CMO, said the fashion brand is “excited to embark on this ground-breaking journey into the future of digital ownership in gaming.”
Blankos Block Party features vinyl toys in the form of NFTs. By using blockchain technology, the game is creating a play-to-earn economy, which many now recognize as the future of digital gaming.
In the summer, the high-end fashion brand released another NFT character for Blankos named Minny B. The toy came along with a line-up of digital accessories and a social space within the game titled “The Oasis” for users to socialize and connect.
Burberry’s latest partnership was with the popular game Minecraft to create a customized in-game adventure, “Burberry: Freedom to Go Beyond.” The game, which launched on November 1, allows players to build Burberry-themed virtual worlds by using the brand’s Nova check-covered building blocks in the TB logo-shaped garden.
