The University of Nicosia (UNIC) in Cyprus has launched the world’s first Master of Science (MSc) program specializing in the metaverse. Offered online, the program targets creators, developers, architects, social scientists, financial professionals, policymakers, and individuals interested in pursuing a future in the metaverse space.
The year-long program runs from September to August and is divided into three semesters. It comprises two thematic areas: Metaverse Management and Metaverse Development. These areas are specifically tailored to deliver specialized courses that equip students with comprehensive knowledge of various aspects of metaverse technologies and their practical implementation.
The program aims to provide students with a holistic education, covering a wide range of metaverse-related subjects. Students will get technical expertise and competencies, such as 3D modeling and design, VR/AR development, blockchain/NFT, data skills, project management, marketing, communication, creativity, and collaboration.
“We are thrilled to introduce the world’s first MSc in Metaverse, showcasing our commitment to delivering forward-thinking education that addresses the demands of rapidly evolving industries. The metaverse represents the future of human interaction and offers tremendous potential across various sectors. Through this programme, we aim to empower students with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in this exciting new landscape,”
Professor George Giaglis, Professor at the University of Nicosia, and Executive Director of UNIC’s Institute for the Future, said in a statement.
The UNIC’s flagship course, ‘NFTs and the Metaverse,’ will be part of the MSc in Metaverse program curriculum. Delivered on-chain and in the metaverse, this course is taught by UNIC faculty and NFT influencer & collector @punk6529. They will be joined by industry leaders, including Balaji Srinivasan, Fred Wilson, Chris Dixon, and Beeple. The course’s first iteration, in October 2022, attracted more than 20,000 online students.
To provide financial support for exceptional applicants, the UNIC will also launch a scholarship program worth €300,000.
Registration for the September 2023 MSc in Metaverse program intake is now open, welcoming prospective students to enroll. Interested individuals are encouraged to sign up to receive more details about the program and the scholarship application process.
