By Emerging Tech Team: As 2022 comes to a close, the crypto community still hasn’t been able to catch a break with the news of another crypto hack breaking the internet. As per a Cointelegraph report, multichain crypto wallet BitKeep has been hacked for $8 million after users reported that funds were being transferred from their wallets even while they were not using them.
BitKeep confirmed the hack on the app’s official Telegram group and said that some of the APK package downloads have been highjacked by hackers and malicious software had been installed with the code.
The company statement reads: “If your funds are stolen, the application you download or update may be an unknown version (unofficial release version) hijacked.”
Amid the hackers draining BitKeep wallets of funds, BitKeep urged its users to transfer funds to wallets that come from authentic sources like Google Play Store and the App Store. To ensure the safety of user funds, BitKeep has also advised users to use newly-created wallet addresses as their previous addresses might already have been leaked and are at the mercy of hackers.

In order to help users who have been affected by the hack, BitKeep has asked affected users to provide details about the hack through a Google Form link it has provided. As per the report, one of the suspected hacker accounts had more than $5 million of stolen funds in its wallet. It is still not clear how many total funds have been stolen as the attackers are still transferring funds into multiple wallet addresses.
PeckShield, which is a blockchain security firm, has estimated that almost $8 million has been stolen, comprising Tether, BNB, Ether and DAI cryptocurrencies.
