Aavegotchi is holding a vote to decide if the cap for available Gotchis, the pixelated ghosts that populate the game world, should be increased through a so-called Haunt. The vote arose after much discussion within the community. It will last one week and determine if there will be a second Haunt, the process for creating new Gotchis within the ecosystem.
Unlike other NFT-based games, Aavegotchi has a different stance on caps and scarcity. They believe that having a hard cap on Gotchis will limit the potential for increasing adoption. Instead of having a fixed supply, they allow the community to dictate when they want to introduce new Aavegotchi ghost through an event called a Haunt.
There are many areas within the Aavegotchi universe where the AavegotchiDAO has control. According to the developers, the primary responsibility of AavegotchiDAOs is to decide how and when they want to introduce more Gotchis. The developers call this process “supply by consensus.”

Tell me more about the Haunt
Haunts began in March 2021, when 10,000 portal NFTs were dropped on a first come first serve basis. It only took 60 seconds for the drop to sell out. Ever since then, the team has been considering a second Haunt. Since the first Haunt concluded, Aavegotchi supporters have shown growing support for another one. Pixelcraft Studios, the core team of the game, has even endorsed a second Haunt.
You can view all of the details of the proposal on the Aavegotchi team’s Medium post. We’ll briefly summarize some of the important details below:
- They will add 15,000 portals (remember that a portal is necessary to “summon” a new Gotchi)
- Players need Polygon Aave.com amTokens to summon ghosts
- If approved, 80% of the portals will sell in a bid-to-earn style auction, with 20% being raffled off
Since the team is planning for much wider adoption than the initial 10,000 portal NFTs, they are in support of this endeavor. The question, however, is will the community approve the portal increase?
Gotchiverse needs citizens
The Aavegotchi developers recently revealed their road map for the Gotchiverse, a play-to-earn world where the Gotchi ghosts can work together to fight the Liquidators. It only makes sense to initiated a second Haunt, because the Gotchiverse needs citizens.
They published lots of information about the Gotchiverse Realm, and players who now understand it all, can join the Aavegotchi Quiz. This will allow them to earn Drop Tickets for Portal and Realm (land parcels) NFTs. Click the banner below to join!
