Virtual gaming platform The Sandbox partners with French art-house film company MK2 to bring cinema into the Metaverse.
MK2, founded in 1974, is a family-owned company specializing in the creation, preservation, and distribution of films in France and globally. The company is a distributor of both historical and innovative films that focuses on quality and creativity. The physical MK2 venues, spread across France and Spain, are designed as living spaces that invite individuals to socialize and discuss cinema.
MK2 is also known as a pioneer in immersive technologies. In 2016, the company opened the first Europe-based virtual reality venue.
With the new partnership, MK2 aims to extend its love for quality cinema to the metaverse. The company has recently acquired LAND in The Sandbox and is now developing a virtual film-oriented experience on the plot. The location, which will host mini-games for cinema fans, film references, and rides, is named “mk2 Park.” Additionally to the interactive experiences, MK2 plans to create a virtual social space for users to discuss cinema.
“We envision the metaverse as a gathering place of diverse entertainment and culture, and it’s a pleasure to welcome MK2 as our first art-house film partner. Together, we plan to create an entertainment destination for cinema lovers to enjoy together in the Metaverse,”
said the COO and Co-founder of The Sandbox, Sebastien Borget.
Thanks to the numerous partnerships, The Sandbox offers its players a variety of virtual experiences. Users can skate with the avatar of professional skater Tony Hawk, play football with Sergio “Kun” Agüero, and dance to the beats with Paris Hilton.
