Commenting on Meta putting the new Quest/Roblox integration as a key to its metaverse strategy, VR expert "SkarredGhost" believes it was a rush job:
Yeah, it's clear that Meta is betting a lot on Roblox. I tried today Roblox on Quest and it is so full of visible bugs that it is clear that it has been rushed out to release it for business reasons (Zuck being able to talk about it to investors).
In fact Mr. Ghost has a whole blog post and YouTube walkthrough (watch above) on the topic, which is important, because the current version is not officially discoverable — but has already been played by quite a lot of Quest owners:
Roblox has just launched but is in Beta. And in fact, the app is currently not available on the main store, but only through the indie App Lab store. It’s very important to read my review considering this factor: the VR version available today is not the final one, that is coming in a few months. Now there is only a preliminary version that is being improved every week by the Roblox engineers.
Notwithstanding that the app is only on App Lab (and so is not discoverable), it has already received more than 1200 reviews in just one day, a result that I guess no other VR experience on App Lab ever had. This shows how much Roblox is popular and how its massive audience can benefit VR. If it is having 1200 reviews at launch on App Lab, imagine what can happen when it launches on the main store!
Much more here. Obviously it's not fair to judge the Roblox-for-Quest app until it's officially launched — my guess is Meta will do so during the next Quest dev conference in September.
