Decentralized metaverse The Sandbox has acquired the German game development studio Sviper GmbH. The acquisition of Sviper provides additional development, engineering, and creative talent to the global The Sandbox team, which could potentially lead to more unique, engaging, and enjoyable gaming experiences.
The Sviper team, led by CEO Ole Schaper and CPO Mark Buchholz, boasts over 25 years of combined experience in mobile, PC, and multiplayer gaming, having worked with several renowned brands. After collaborating with The Sandbox for over a year, Sviper has seamlessly integrated into the platform’s ecosystem. The 40-member team in Hamburg’s gaming tech hub is now actively hiring new talents for The Sandbox in Germany.
Founded in 2016 by game industry veterans and supported by Rocket Internet, Sviper is a full-stack free-to-play expert focused on the mobile market. Sviper’s previous collaborations with well-known brands in the gaming industry suggest it has the necessary experience to contribute to The Sandbox’s continued success.
Sebastien Borget, COO and co-founder of The Sandbox, praised the Hamburg team for their creative input in advancing gameplay options for The Sandbox creators and internal teams. The team’s efforts include introducing social features, designing game logic rules, and implementing multiplayer capabilities to unlock the metaverse’s creative potential.
“The Sandbox is a visionary enterprise with countless fascinating aspects beyond traditional game development. The ability to create innovative, social user-generated gaming experiences, the growing social platform and the revolutionary aspects of Web3 are just some of the key features,”
said Mark Buchholz, CPO and Co-Founder of Sviper.
Through deals and agreements, The Sandbox expanded to multiple countries, including the United States, China, Korea, and Japan. The acquisition of Sviper adds to The Sandbox’s presence in Europe, particularly in Germany.
