GALA Discontinues $TOWN – Play to Earn

After almost two years of Town Star, GALA Games discontinues its token $TOWN. All $TOWN holders must exchange the token for $GALA, which will become the primary token of this farming title. The team wants to expand the utility of $GALA and ensure the sustainability of the whole ecosystem. As soon as the process is complete, every time players purchase items in Town Star with $GALA, those tokens will be burned.

Mark Skaggs is now involved with the game and is one of the team members behind this decision. This is extremely bullish for GALA Games and Town Star. For those who do not know Mark, he was behind the Facebook title Farmville that made grandmas wake up at 4 AM to harvest some crops and feed their virtual chickens. That game went viral back in the day! At some point, it counted 100,000,000 active players! Great games take time to be developed, polished and balanced. Town Star is no exception. The game saw numerous changes since its birth in 2020 and now it is time to reshape its tokenomics.

What will change?

All $TOWN must be swapped by $GALA at the exchange rate of 2:1. In the next 60 days the platform where players can do the exchange will be live. When it comes to Town Star nodes, instead of earning $TOWN, node holders will earn $GALA. This will happen via a burn-to-mint mechanism identical to Spider Tanks. Players must do the exchange in a period of 180 days, otherwise they will lose their tokens.

This change will contribute to the sustainability of the whole GALA Games ecosystem. Every time a player buys an item with $GALA there will be a burn of those tokens. Then, a portion of that $GALA is going to be minted for node holders and another portion will go to Play-and-Earn in Town Star. This change will also increase the demand for $GALA and eventually will help to create buying pressure.

New Version of Town Star

The team will take some time to implement these changes. In January there will be a playtest and in February the game will launch with the following changes:

• Play&Earn system where players can earn $GALA
• Decorating game
• View other player’s towns
• Players will be able to upgrade their NFTs
• The game will be cheat proof
• More competions
• Decoration competitions

Meanwhile, players can still enjoy Town Star while the new version is being developed.

Last Thoughts

GALA Games simply does not stop growing and improving. They now count several AAA titles that players can enjoy for free like Spider Tanks and Superior. Then, all their games have innovative tokenomics and now $GALA has a new utility within Town Star. Last but not least, they are launching the GALA films and they are purchasing Ember Entertainment which will bring new mobile titles to GALA Games.

No gaming ecosystem managed to grow as fast as GALA. I do believe that right now they are the best gaming ecosystem in web3. The only that can compete with them is Immutable X, which might be falling behind. Personally, I am bullish on GALA Games and will keep a close eye on the ecosystem.
