Melbourne-based street artist and founder of the meme art movement, Lushsux, returns this week to release his next drop 420 on MakersPlace, on April 20, 2022 (as you might guess), and it will be a burner indeed. His artwork, heavily influenced by meme culture and principles of virality, is witty, satirical, raw, and thought-provoking.
The 420 on MakersPlace drop will include:
- Two “burn editions,” obtained by sending two artworks to Lushsux’s burn wallet.
- Two “collectors only editions” open only to current Lushsux holders.
How to obtain a Burn Edition: Send any two Lushsux MP tokens to Lushsux’s burn account and receive one token back in return. Editions of “Is DMT 420 friendly?” will be awarded first, followed by “Smokin’ on dat catnip.” Editions will be awarded in the order that burns are submitted. View the Lushsux Burn Account for full details.
About Lushsux
Lushsux, “the world’s first meme artist,” iconic works can be found on walls, buildings, and subway stations across the world. Through his practice, Lushsux has pushed graffiti and street art beyond its limits.
Early in his career, powered by his sharp wit and tireless work ethic, Lushsux became Australia’s most famous street artist. Creating sell-out collections for Banksy’s Walled Off Hotel, headlining major street-art festivals, and being the only Australian artist invited to collaborate in Banksy’s Dismaland.
It became apparent that he had achieved everything that he could in the world of street art. Realizing that it was time to move on, Lushsux invented his unique category of art. Lushsux became the world’s first meme artist, subsequently founding the meme art movement, representing a phenomenon that has since become a foundation of modern communication, social movements, and media.
As the leader in his field Lushsux has exhibited in London, Paris, Vienna, Barcelona, Melbourne, Sydney, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Los Angeles & New York. His artwork features in some of the world’s best collections, including those by fellow artists such as Takashi Murakami and Banksy (and unconfirmed collector 50 Cent).
“I painted a brothel once and the madam liked it so much she offered to give me a handjob to say thanks. True story.” — Lushsux
Through memes, strategic trolling, and his millions of fans, Lushsux echoes the voice of the information revolution like no other artist. His artwork is a zero-hour response to world events, often created to playfully manipulate the lumbering established media into an entertaining dialogue. Lushsux is represented by SHDW.gallery.
